I was privileged this morning to witness a portion of the 9-11 Stair Climb sponsored by our Fire Department in memory of the first responders who perished in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001. Firefighters climbed the steps at the stadium in heavy gear until they had climbed the total number of steps the NY firefighters climbed that day.
Each climber carried badges with the names, photos, and duty assignments of first responders who perished. At the end of their stair climb they came to the podium, read the names and assignments from their badges, and rang the bell in remembrance.
The firefighters were also joined by members of the Tullahoma Marine JROTC. Thanks to these young men and women for helping to remember the fallen and thanks to our firemen for being an example for them.
